MMMMmm…. mmmm…. mmm. M. Today, I’m gathering up some things I love that start with the letter M.
(I have to apologize in advance about today’s photos. It’s been so gray here lately. Well, here goes nothing.)
M is for Mushrooms
I’ve always had a soft spot for mushrooms and little toadstools – especially ones with a secret door. My sister gave me this figurine a really long time ago, and I wonder if she would be surprised that it has stayed on my desk since she gave it to me. I think it’s funny that the little boy fairy on top is also holding some tiny mushrooms.
M is for Matroyshka
I’m not entirely sure where the Matroyshka (Russian doll) trend started, but they are all over the place right now: fabric, notepads, stationery, you name it.
Every time I see them, I am instantly reminded of this matroyshka that belonged to Grandmother. I think it was very brave of her to let us play with it when we were children. The patterns on the doll’s dresses are some sort of wood appliqué.
However, the little baby in the middle was the perfect size for small fingers.
Our last M of the day is:
M is for Miyazaki
I’ve stayed away from TV shows and movies so far, but I put the works of Hayao Miyazaki into a different category. I always watch them and feel that I have been transported somewhere else and discovered something entirely unexpected.
If you’ve seen the works of Studio Ghibli, than you understand. If you haven’t, then I highly recommend you start with My Neighbor Totoro and then work your way through Howl’s Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, The Cat Returns, Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso, Kiki’s Delivery Service… and on. Some of them are strange, but they all have something special. (I also liked Whisper of the Heart.)
I leave you with this little present for the day:
