This past weekend, we saw Alice in Wonderland as a birthday treat with friends. Ever since, I’ve had Alice on the brain. For me, that movie was all about the Mad Hatter and Alice’s costumes. I especially love the tiny dress the Mad Hatter makes for her.

This past weekend, we saw Alice in Wonderland as a birthday treat with friends. Ever since, I’ve had Alice on the brain. For me, that movie was all about the Mad Hatter and Alice’s costumes. I especially love the tiny dress the Mad Hatter makes for her.

This image is a screenshot from the full-release HD trailer.

I just love that ribbon bodice and over-sized flower!

This past weekend, there were lots of fashion articles about the movie and I decided to round up some links for any fellow Alice fans. I also decided to try out one of the Alice in Wonderland printable activities from the Disney site. The photos from yesterday are all from this Alice in Wonderland shadow box.

Although I think it turned out very cute, I have to say this was a lot more work than I thought I was signing up for. This would definitely be a better project for older children who have a lot of patience and scissor skills. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the stage is designed on a slant, so there are some funny folding steps that I think could have been skipped. I do think it’s very clever how the whole thing closes up into a little treasure box (see below).

More Alice fun (and fashion/shopping) around the web:

Disney’s Alice in Wonderland crafts & recipes - who doesn’t need a Mad Hatter paper locket?

Sue Wong’s dress collection for Walt Disney Signature – I think this one is my favorite.

Tom Binns’ jewelry collection

Avril’s Alice in Wonderland collection at Kohl’s

With all this inspiration, I should have plenty to write about in my Dream Journal (a very thoughtful b-day present indeed).

I suggested that he buy enough Girl Scout Cookies this year that he would feel ok about letting me eat some too. 10 boxes. I think it’s time we go shopping for that elliptical machine.

Have you seen the Girl Scout stickers and albums from K & Co? I grabbed some Brownie stickers while I was at JoAnn’s.

To be honest, girl scouts was a very mixed experience for me. I didn’t make it past the brownie stage. If I remember correctly, this had something to do with the fact that I was constantly referring to the handbook and telling our leader that we were not following the instructions properly. I don’t think I was asked back the next year when everyone got the green uniforms. Come to think of it, this also happened to me with tennis lessons, but that might have been because I was an abysmal failure at tennis and not just because I was an insufferable know-it-all.

Oh, sweet childhood memories… ;-)

Only 3 days left in the alphabet series, and here we are at X. I have a copy of the dictionary right here, and the “X” section only takes up 3 pages. 3! And about 20 entries all start with “x-ray….” So I’ve been a bit worried about this letter. I hope you’ll allow a little stretch of the imagination if I tell you that X is for X-acto knife. The good news is that I rounded up some links on paper cutting, and as always, I’m blown away by some of the artists in this medium.

Rob Ryan just re-launched his web-site at Mister Rob. His paper cuts are amazing, but I think what is special about Rob is the way he integrates story into his work. Below is the cover of his book. He has a brick and mortar shop at the Columbia Road shops and flower market in London. (If you check out this amazing link, you will almost feel like you are there, strolling down the street). Other favorites to check out: his other products and especially this skirt.

Great round up of book art via author Abra Ebner

Amy Karol’s downloadable paper cutting patterns

Loobylu’s paper cutting post

Elsita Mora, paper cutting artist (via Loobylu)

Sharyn Sowell, paper cutting artist who specializes in silhouettes

Has anyone tried this? Just thinking about paper cutting makes my fingers hurt. However, the results seem so special — maybe it’s worth it?
