More to Love: Butterflies

onaflower

Five things I love about butterflies (in no particular order):

1)  They remind me of summertime when my sister would pick a flower from our yard and sit perfectly still for hours trying to get them to land on her.  (It worked too.)

2)  Some of their chrysalises are as detailed and colorful as Fabergé eggs.  This flickr group of chrysalis photos is amazing.  Don’t miss this one.  It looks like a pink leaf! I think it’s fascinating that the butterfly, the caterpillar, and the chrysalis can look so different.

3) Some butterflies only live a week.  (Sigh.)

4) Butterflies are fun (and challenging) to photograph.  (Almost like flowers that move.)  I took these photos 5+ years ago and it makes me want to try again with a better camera.

5) There are butterfly farms and exhibitions all over where you can get up close and personal with a variety of butterflies and moths.  I’m looking forward to April when the Pavilion of Wings returns.  There is something magical about seeing  a lot of butterflies in one place.

Soon, soon.  Come on spring!
