Hi there. It’s Day 8 in More to Love, A to Z: 26 Days of Alphabetic Inspiration, and I am rounding up words and images that inspire me all categorized by letter. We’re at H which drums up thoughts of Horses, Hats, and Heroes. I’m doing my best to stay away from the puns, but some days I can’t quite Help it.
Anyway, today I’ve picked 3 words to share. Maybe these H’s will inspire you, too.
H is for Houses
While gathering up some H’s to photograph, I discovered that I have quite a lot of fabric with houses on it. I’ve always loved illustrations of cottages and tiny maps and houses. They bring up so many questions. Who lives there? How do they decorate? Which path do they take to get home?
Now that I’ve rounded up all my house fabric into a stack, I feel a house-themed project coming on.
Next, H is for Honey
Every now and then, a magazine issue comes along that really sticks with you and this is one that I pull out again and again: Martha Stewart Living June 2008. I fell in love with the bee hive cake on the cover as well as the article about honey pots. I don’t have any bee or honey themed containers, but I keep an eye out. I have a feeling that the right one will find me one day.
I’m not sure if it’s the simple, orderly shapes or the sweet, amber colored light that makes them so enchanting. (Alas, I do not feel the same way about the actual bees. Ack.)
And lastly, H is for Hedge Mazes
I have had a long time fascination with hedge mazes, and it is one of my greatest personal ambitions (albeit a far-fetched one) to own a home with a lawn large enough for a hedge maze. If I pull this off, you will all be invited over to see it.
Truth be told, I have never been to a real hedge maze. There is a very small, child-sized hedge maze at Descanso Gardens. There is a water garden at the Getty (above) that almost looks like a hedge maze from very far away. There is a walking labyrinth (a mound of grass) at the Huntington. I also went to the Pineapple Maze on Oahu. (It may be the longest maze, but it’s not quite a hedge.) I hope one day to go to Longleat, but I haven’t quite made it there yet.
It was only recently that I discovered where this fascination may have started. I do think it’s interesting that I would like for my backyard to resemble the entrance to It’s a Small World. Hmm…
I’ll keep you posted.
