Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Cocoa

As much as I have always loved Christmas and all the preparation leading up to it, I will admit that there are some bittersweet days in there, too.  I know I am not alone even though I am usually a happy-sleigh-bells-ringing type of girl.  (I was a Christmas elf for Halloween for crying out loud!)

A while ago, I read this post about the holidays and it really resonated with me.  I remember thinking that above all, I wanted to create a spirit of peace in my home for the holidays.

I’ll be honest.  This is not normal.  I am a control-every-snowflake, over-the-top type.  I am not Christmas peace.

However, I know there are some people out there who are dealing with a loss or disappointment or worry this season.  Some people are getting that lump in their throat when they realize that – for whatever reason – this year won’t be the same.

We place a lot of responsibility on creating holiday memories with our families, but this year I am trying to balance that with an eye on our energy levels too.

I thought about putting up a holiday gift guide or a tutorial for a Christmas project, but then thought – well, maybe you just need a break.  So, for the next few days, I’ll be focusing on some quieter, cozy moments around here.  Maybe this will help me slow down, too.  I’ll be trying to pace my family so we’re not worn out and half-dead by the time it’s Christmas Eve.  There’s still more wrapping, shopping, and a dinner party in there – so I can’t say I have this Christmas peace stuff totally figured out.

This is a season that (in my faith) is about love taking us out of the darkness.  A lot of it is fantastic and magical, but if you’re feeling like peace might be a better route out of darkness, then my holiday wish is that you’ll find some of those moments, too.

Let your heart be light.

I know I don’t get a ton of comments right now (aside from my ever faithful sister).  However, I would love to hear your thoughts on finding the quiet, peaceful moments of the season.  Any suggestions on enjoying more serenity in the upcoming weeks?  Is there a holiday pleasure that lifts your spirits?

  1. Tea. There’s something about tea that actually forces me to take deep breaths and sit and watch. I think it might be that tea is a process. It’s not instant. It requires patience and then when you have that perfect cup in front of you– you want to savor it. Tea brakes are always relaxing for me and helps lift my spirit when I get too stressed.

I have finished most of my orders on http://www.followsales.com, and I am looing forward to the happy Christmas dinner. I like the astomsphere that all family members get together to celebrate the new year and say goodby to the old one. I like my mom’s homecooking too. It has a taste of warm home.
