Hi there! I am home and starting to pour over my pictures from Fall Quilt Market in Houston.
Is anyone asking “What is Quilt Market?”
Quilt Market is a fabric tradeshow that takes place twice a year (open to the trade). Fabric shop owners can preview the new product lines and place orders for fabric, notions, and patterns. While the name implies quilts only, there is a wide variety of aesthetics represented from traditional quilts to contemporary fabrics used for everything from home decor to garments and accessories.
This was my first year attending and it was a lot to take in. I have always been so appreciative of everyone who posted pictures of the event, so I’ll be sharing my recap over the next couple of days starting with the talented designers from Windham.
On Friday night, Caroline of www.jcarolinecreative.com kicked off the show with Fabric 2.0 Lite – a get together of fabric lovers and some of the stars of the show. I had heard before that Caroline was super nice and funny, and she lived up to her reputation. Jessica Levitt (Juicy Bits) and Bari J. Ackerman have new collections debuting with Windham fabrics, and they were both incredibly kind and welcoming. Shopping around my portfolio at the show was really nerve-wracking, but it helped so much to have some people cheering me on who have been down that road and succeeded. Thanks girls – it meant a lot.
Onto the collections…
Jessica Levitt’s collection, Timber, has a beautiful palette (love that plum color!). Her area in the Windham booth included a quilt as well as dresses, accessories, and bags. All of her samples were impeccably made as you would expect from Jess.
Bari’s new line, Art Journal, has Bari’s signature painted style in a soft, but fresh color scheme. Bari’s attention to detail is incredible. I loved the bird appliqué she did on this dress. I’m not sure how she pulled all of this off while working on her book(!). That girl is on fire!
The Windham displays are set up right behind the order writing tables, so I felt a little shy about climbing over everyone to take more pictures. (Sorry!) I missed Genevieve Gail’s section for Gypsy Garden, but I see that she has already posted some pictures on her site so you’ll have to hop over there to check them out.
More up tomorrow…
