Friday Refreshments

Elderflower Presse

One of my personal goals this year is to take the time to enjoy all the yummy seasonal beverages.  I don’t know how many times I’ve looked back to realize that the seasons have completely changed, and I missed out on drinking my fill of hot cocoa.  I figure that one of the benefits of working from home is that I can now take a break in the middle of the day and make fresh squeezed raspberry lemonade.  I might have to wait until I unpack my juicer, but still – I could do it.

Here are all the special and/or seasonal beverages that I plan to make.  Some are safe and some are a little more exotic.  Some probably aren’t seasonal at all.  However, if I’ve missed any, I hope you’ll let me know.

Summery -

  • Watermelon Juice (check)
  • Lemonade (check)
  • Raspberry Lemonade
  • Iced Tea
  • Elderflower Presse (check, although I had to purchase this one since I don’t have any elderflowers) – Truthfully, I was a tad disappointed.  Perhaps this is an acquired taste?  I had wanted to make Martha Stewart’s elderflower ice cream, but now am not so sure.  Anyone know if it’s good?

Sorry, got distracted there.  Back to the list…

International -

  • Vietnamese Iced Coffee (attempted once, needs fine tuning)
  • Thai Iced Tea
  • Chai Latte
  • Boba

Imaginary -

  • Butterbeer
  • Pumpkin Juice

Cozy -

  • Mulled Wine
  • Glogg (is that the same as mulled wine?)
  • Eggnog
  • Hot Spiced Apple Cider (I confess, I drink this year round)
  • U-Press Apple Cider
  • Hot Cocoa
  • Wassail
  • Pumpkin Ale

I thought my list was fairly manageable until my sister loaned me her Susan Branch Christmas book, and I had to add:

  • Chocolate Mint Coffee
  • Elfin Wine
  • Coffee Grog
  • Hot Buttered Rum (!)

At that point, I decided that Susan was THE expert on seasonal beverages so I went out and got the Autumn book.  Yep, there were a few more:

  • Kiss-in-the-Dark
  • Pumpkin Latte
  • Eggnog Cappuccino
  • Vampire’s Kiss
  • Halloween Punch

Anything I’ve missed?  I’ll be sure to report back regularly as I make my way down this list.  It would be fun if you could join me.

Have a great weekend, everyone.  Thanks for such a great first week.
